Annex Refurbishment

JMS Engineers provided structural engineering support for the refurbishment and partial reconstruction of an existing annex at Tanglewood in Little Maplestead, Essex. The project involved significant alterations to the original structure, requiring careful assessment of existing fabric, foundations, and load paths before new construction could proceed.

A key element of the scheme was the design and detailing of a new reinforced concrete slab tied into the existing building. JMS specified reinforcement arrangements, concrete cover requirements, and construction sequencing to ensure structural durability, compliance, and buildability on site.

Throughout the project, JMS worked closely with the contractor to resolve technical queries, refine detailing, and adapt the design to site conditions. The result is a structurally robust, weather-tight annex that integrates new construction with the retained elements of the original building.
